All-Rounder Whiteley Helps Prospect Cc To Pull Off Narrow Victory

All-Rounder Whiteley Helps Prospect Cc To Pull Off Narrow Victory

Ross Whiteley turned in a fine all-round performance to help Prospect CC overcome home side Northern Districts by eight runs in a South Australian Cricket Association 'A' grade encounter.

The Worcestershire player came in at number three after his side won the toss and scored 47 off 66 balls with one six and five fours.

He was sixth out at 140 but Prospect, who had won the toss, recovered to reach 248 all out in 49.5 overs.

Whiteley's contribution with the ball was even more decisive despite him being the eighth bowler to be brought into the attack.

Northern Districts appeared to be cruising to victory at 134-1 and then 187-3.

But Whiteley had other ideas and his first victim was former Glamorgan and Australian one-day player and Districts skipper Mark Cosgrove for 20.

Northern Districts still looked favourites at 230-6 but Whiteley dismissed K. Pascoe who had struck 51 off 43 balls and then sent back T. Pascoe one run later.

His side held their nerve and came out on top as Districts closed on 240-9 after 50 overs.

Whiteley finished with figures of 3-21 from five overs – his best figures to date of the winter.
