All-Rounder Whiteley Has To Settle For Draw In Rain-Affected Encounter

Ross Whiteley made useful contributions with bat and ball but his side Prospects CC just failed to claim first innings points in the drawn two-day game with visiting Glenelg in the South Australian Cricket Association 'A' grade.

Worcestershire all-rounder Whiteley scored 26 and finished with 1-38 from nine overs.

The match effectively became a one-day contest after rain severely curtailed play on the first day.

Prospect, who were put into bat, resumed on 15-2 from eight overs with Whiteley unbeaten on 10.

He made 26 off 49 balls with a six and two fours before being fourth out with the total on 35. It soon became 46-5 but a fine 61 from B. Siebert helped Prospect to recover.

The last five wickets added 153 runs and they were eventually bowled out for 199 from 71.4 overs.

Glenelg were well placed at 98-1 in reply but then Whiteley, who came on second change, started a collapse when he dismissed J. Garrett for 17.

Seven wickets went down for 45 runs and Glenelg eventually closed on 144-8 from 40 overs.
