POSITIVE FITNESS BULLETIN FOR RAPIDS AHEAD OF STEELBACKS CLASH

worcestershire ccc all-rounder wayne parnell is fit for tomorrow’s vitality blast encounter with northamptonshire steelbacks at New Road.

parnell was absent from the county’s three-day game against australia with a severe chest infection.

but the south african has made a full recovery and will be keen to continue the impressive form he has demonstrated for the rapids

there is also encouraging news about fellow all-rounder george rhodes who suffered a back spasm while bowling against australia while daryl mitchell has shaken off a niggle.

rhodes came into the side as the county’s spin option when brett d’oliveira suffered a broken thumb and mitchell’s medium pace bowling has been a key component of the rapids attack.

first team coach alex gidman said: “wayne was feeling pretty poorly (with his chest infection) but he is fully recovered.

george was missing for most of the australian game with a back spasm which he got when he was bowling.

“but we are hoping he will settle down in time to be involved in the squad on sunday. mitch had a niggle as well which we think has tidied up as well.

“thankfully those guys are on the mend.”

the rapids will choose from the 11 players in action last sunday against leicestershire foxes club captain joe leach, tom fell and charlie morris.

the rapids are level on points with second placed notts outlaws who have played a game more.

gidman said: “the t20 is getting exciting. we’ve got off to a really good start in the competition. we had a couple of off games but have generally played really well.

“some other results have kept the chasing pack really tight.

“we are still in (joint) second place so we’ve got an exciting opportunity to get a couple more wins soon hopefully which would put us in a really good position.

“but we will focus on sunday first, try our best to get a win there and then focus on the next day. looking forward to the rest of the competition.”
