Worcestershire all-rounder Ed Barnard impressed with the ball on the opening day of the two-day friendly with Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
The England Under-19 player sent down two seven over spells and finished with figures of 2-28 from 14 overs.
Barnard dismissed Ateeq Javid and Laurie Evans as Warwickshire reached 263-4 in the 64 overs permitted in their first innings.
Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes believes Barnard is capable of challenging for a first team spot this season.
Rhodes said: "Last week playing for the second team Ed got four wickets against Loughborough MCCU and bowled really well. Kevin Sharp (second team coach) was really impressed.
"He had a really good winter in Canberra (playing for Queanbeyan District) and has definitely grown in physicality and maturity.
"The two spells against Warwickshire were excellent. There was a very short boundary on the one side and it is testament to the line and length he bowled.
"He nibbled the ball off the seam and deserved his wickets. Two wonderful spells. He is a lad with a bright future and he is definitely going to challenge for a place this year."
Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat. Chris Russell and Joe Leach shared the new ball and it was the former who made the first breakthrough at 49 in the ninth over when bowling Varun Chopra for 30 off 31 with five fours.
Leach bowled a very economical spell of eight overs for 20 runs, including four maidens.
Russell (5-0-34-1) was replaced by Barnard and the England Under-19 all-rounder struck when trapping Javid lbw for four at 59-2 in the 15th over.
He broke through for a second time when Evans was caught behind by Joe Clarke for a duck with Warwickshire 62-3 in the 21st over.
But then opener Ian Westwood and Sam Hain featured in a partnership of 188 in 41 overs to take Warwickshire to the 250 mark in the 62nd over.
Russell ended the partnership by bowling Hain for 94 from 124 balls with 16 fours. Westwood finished unbeaten on 121 as Warwickshire closed their innings on 263-4 from 64 overs.
Worcestershire were due to bat for 32 overs during the final session on Monday but bad light stopped play after they reached 31-1 off nine overs for the loss of skipper Daryl Mitchell.
Richard Oliver hit five boundaries in making an unbeaten 24 off 24 deliveries.
There was also a delay at the start of the second day and no play was possible before lunch today (Tuesday).
