ACADEMY PRODUCT HAYNES TOP SCORER IN SCHOOLS CRICKET

worcestershire ccc batsman jack haynes scored more runs than other player in schools cricket during the 2018 season.

haynes, who signed his first professional contract with the county last summer, amassed 1,393 runs in just 21 completed innings for malvern college.

academy product jack – one of the sons of former worcestershire all-rounder gavin haynes – hit five centuries with a top score of 177 not out.

he had the impressive average of 66.33 runs per innings and his exploits are highlighted in the 2019 edition of the wisden cricketers’ almanack.

haynes put pen to paper on a contract with worcestershire until the end of the 2020 season.

he is currently completing his final year of school exams and commitments at malvern college before reverting full-time to professional cricket.

haynes has demonstrated his potential from an early age and in march 2018 was part of the county squad for the pre-season trip to abu dhabi.

he scored his first century for the seconds last summer in the trophy match with nottinghamshire at kidderminster.

haynes, who has been recovering from an ankle injury, was a member of the academy intake for three years at New Road – 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.

he was twice selected for the prestigious bunbury festival and also the super fours.

current worcestershire ccc academy player, xavie clarke, is also high up in the list of run-scorers in 2018 schools cricket.

clarke, a pupil at shrewsbury school, amassed 845 runs in 20 completed innings with one century at an average of 42.25.

he has been a member of the county’s 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 academy intake.

clarke earned his first call-up for the ‘super fours’ – the under-17s equivalent of the bunburys – at the national performance centre, loughborough last summer when he played alongside jack haynes and zain ul-hassan.

millfield school pupil charlie clist, who has represented the academy in past years and also in 2019, is occupying 19th spot with 801 runs at an average of 53.40.
