Worcestershire’s Academy (Under-18s) completed a second victory in 24 hours when they defeated Shropshire Under-18s by seven wickets in a 50 over encounter at Kidderminster.
The Academy fielded a younger side than selected for the win over Herefordshire on Wednesday, and there were several encouraging performances with bat and ball.
Shropshire elected to bat, and the Academy new ball attack of Sam Keeling-Wright and Drew Malek both picked up an early wicket.
Malek bowled an excellent opening spell of 1-3 from five overs and ended with figures of 9-4-24-2.
Spinner Joshua Leach then worked his way effectively through the middle order to reduce Shropshire to 105-7 at one stage.
He finished with an excellent return of 10-1-22-4.
Another spinner in, Ismail Mohammed, then showed his quality in bowling the ‘death’ overs and deserved figures of 9.4-1-36-2.
Ajay Shingadia and Mohammed then got the Academy off to an excellent start with an opening stand of 113.
Mohammed struck 57 off 77 balls with nine fours and Shingadia 50 from 88 deliveries with seven boundaries.
Joe Stanley then raced to 60 not out from only 49 deliveries with one six and nine fours as the Academy reached 202-3 in 40.3 overs.
