Academy Are Beaten In T20 Double Header With Warwicks

Worcestershire Academy were beaten in two T20 games with their Warwickshire counterparts at Barnt Green.

In Game One, Worcestershire were put into bat and totalled 149-4 with Jack Haynes scoring 60 off 48 balls with nine fours.

He and fellow opener Will Wade – 32 off 33 balls – put on 89 in 12.2 overs.

Zain Ul-Hassan was the other chief contributor with a quickfire 36 off 20 deliveries with one six and five fours.

Warwickshire reached their target with six wickets and three overs to spare thanks to skipper R Yates' 64 off 33 balls with two sixes and six fours.

The Worcestershire wicket-takers were Charlie Cross (4-0-35-2), Ul-Hassan (3-0-17-1) and Matt Davis (3-0-31-1).

In Game Two, Warwickshire again won the toss and this time chose to bat and scored 136-9.

Xavier Clarke returned the excellent figures of 4-1-22-3 and even managed the rarity in T20 cricket of being able to bowl a maiden.

Cross (4-0-18-2) again picked up two wickets and the other successful bowlers were Ul-Hassan (4-0-27-1) and Davis (3-0-17-1).

Jujhar Johal and Wade gave the Worcestershire reply a fine start with an opening stand of 85 in 11.2 overs.

Johal made 58 off 46 balls with one six and six fours and Wade a run-a-ball 28.

Number three Clarke made 23 off 20 deliveries before he was run out but Worcestershire finished five runs short on 131-6.
