WORCESTERSHIRE HONOUR JOE LEACH WITH SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Worcestershire have honoured all-rounder Joe Leach with a presentation during day one of the Vitality County Championship match at Visit Worcestershire New Road with Lancashire – his final game before hanging up his spikes.

Worcestershire President Phil Neale presented the all-rounder with a framed limited-edition illustration, celebrating his journey through the years at Worcestershire, on the outfield in front of the Graeme Hick Pavilion.

His team-mates and members joined in rapturous applause for the 33-year-old who has to date taken 467 first class wickets for the County and scored nearly 4,000 first class runs.

On behalf of the whole Club, a spokesperson paid a glowing tribute to Leach.

“We want to recognise a true Worcestershire legend – Joe Leach.

“For over a decade, Joe has been a stalwart of our club, embodying the values of dedication, passion, and perseverance both on and off the field.

“Since making his debut in 2011, Joe has played an incredible 139 first-class matches, taking over 450 wickets for Worcestershire, including an outstanding 69 wickets during the 2017 season alone – a year in which he also captained the side to promotion.

“Joe’s all-round ability is reflected in his contributions with the bat as well, with over 3,500 first-class runs to his name, including two centuries.

“Joe has been a part of many memorable moments, but none more extraordinary than his remarkable achievement of taking three wickets with the first three balls of a One Day Cup match against Northamptonshire – the only time this has ever been accomplished by an Englishman.

“His leadership has also been instrumental in securing promotions for Worcestershire, not once, but three times – in 2014, in 2017 as captain, and again in 2023.

“From his early days to his memorable captaincy, and throughout every ball bowled, Joe has shown unwavering commitment to Worcestershire.

“His all-round contributions, not just in his remarkable performances but in his leadership and mentorship, have left an indelible mark on our club.

“Today, we are honoured to present Joe with a framed limited-edition illustration, celebrating his journey through the years.

“This special piece captures his evolution – from a young talent to one of our most respected senior players. It stands as a tribute to his loyalty, his love for Worcestershire, and the impact he’s had on every teammate, member, and supporter.

“Joe, from everyone at Worcestershire County Cricket Club, thank you for your service, your heart, and the memories. We wish you every success in the future – you will always be a part of the Worcestershire family.”
