Surrey Match Under Lights On Tv As Rapids Face Five Rlc Games In Seven Days

Worcestershire Rapids embark on a hectic schedule of five Royal London One-Day Cup matches in the space of seven days beginning with today's home clash with Yorkshire Vikings (10.30 am start).

The Rapids will then take on Somerset tomorrow at Taunton, entertain Northamptonshire on Sunday (August 2), visit Surrey at the Kia Oval on Tuesday (August 4) and then play host to Gloucestershire on Wednesday (August 5).

The Surrey game has been put back to 2pm for live coverage under lights by Sky Sports and means the Rapids will arrive home in the early hours of Wednesday morning with little time to recuperate before facing Gloucestershire later the same day.

Then two days later Worcestershire will start a home LV = County Championship match with Nottinghamshire (August 7).

Rapids Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has named an unchanged squad for today's (Thursday's) opening home RLC clash with Yorkshire.

The Rapids will select from the same 12 players chosen for the washed-out clash with Durham at the Emirates ICG on Monday.

Paceman Jack Shantry is again rested after playing in all 11 LV = County Championship and 13 NatWest T20 Blast matches this season.

The Rapids overcame Yorkshire in the T20 Blast but were beaten in both LV = CC matches.

Skipper Daryl Mitchell said: "They are a good side. They will probably have been disappointed not to have progressed in the Twenty20 with the players they've got certainly.

"They will be looking to make their mark in this competition no doubt so it will be a tough challenge on Thursday.

"But we back our skills in white ball cricket. We've worked hard over the last couple of years and performed well, particularly in the Twenty20.

"We were a little disappointing in the 50 over competition last year but I think we've learnt from the mistakes we made and we've got our plans for this year and we will back ourselves against anyone.

"In one-day cricket any side can beat any other on a given day."
