Skipper Wants County To Learn From Mistakes Ahead Of Hove Clash

Skipper Wants County To Learn From Mistakes Ahead Of Hove Clash

Daryl Mitchell has urged Worcestershire to "learn quickly from our mistakes" ahead of the LV = County Championship clash with Sussex at Hove which starts today.

Worcestershire skipper Mitchell wants the county to show over four days the form evident during the opening two days of the 10 wicket defeat by Yorkshire by New Road.

Mitchell said: "A defeat is difficult to take but there were a few positives – Tom Fell, Gaz Andrew and Jack Shantry – and also the way we stood toe to toe to Yorkshire for the first two days is something we took out of the game.

"We've got to learn from our mistakes quickly and move forward and onto Hove.

"It can be a quick pacey wicket and with their attack, they have the likes of Tynan Mills and Ajmal Shahzad who bowl quite fast, and Steve Magoffin is a good seamer as well.

"They will come at us with some pace and bounce on those wickets and we've got to be ready for it."

Mitchell added: "We lost to the county champions in Yorkshire and there is no disgrace in that.

"We've got 15 games to go and will go into everyone trying to win it.

"If we can perform like we did first innings with bat and ball, and string that out over four days, I'm sure we will be in a position to win cricket matches."
