Worcestershire Rapids went down by seven wickets despite totalling nearly 200 in the NatWest T20 Blast clash with Lancashire Lightning at New Road this evening.
Now they will be looking to bounce back in quickfire fashion tomorrow when they visit Notts Outlaws for another T20 Blast encounter.
Ben Cox and Ross Whiteley thrashed 77 off just five overs to lift the Rapids final total up to 198 all out in 19.4 overs albeit with the aid of a short boundary on the Cathedral side of the ground.
But, as many international sides have discovered, stopping an on song Jos Buttler is easier said than done as Sri Lanka had discovered in this week's T20I when he scored 73 not out at the Ageas Bowl.
Buttler, who survived a chance on 16 off Jack Shantry, smashed 57 off just 22 balls despite suffering a thumb injury while behind the stumps during the Rapids innings.
Kyle Abbott picked up the first wicket for his adopted county when bowling Buttler and after his dismissal the Rapids bowlers did their best to peg back the run rate before Lancashire achieved their total with 11 balls to spare.
Alviro Petersen (34) turned Joe Leach into the hands of Jack Shantry at square leg and Liam Livingstone (7) was bowled by skipper Daryl Mitchell before Karl Brown (62 not out) settled the issue.
Worcestershire were put into bat and Joe Leach was promoted to open, a move which had proved successful when he struck 63 in the recent Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Yorkshire at Headingley.
He made 14 before Buttler held a steepling catch running back off Nathan Buck.
Tom Kohler-Cadmore (18) struck two sixes before he was bowled by Jordan Clark.
Joe Clarke looked in good touch on the day he and Brett D'Oliveira were named in the England Lions squad for the Tri-Series with Pakistan 'A' and Sri Lanka 'A'.
But after making a classy 25 he went for a reverse sweep against Stephen Parry and popped up a catch to Buttler.
D'Oliveira (30) was caught at deep mid wicket off Luis Reece and Mitchell (9) was bowled by Steven Croft.
The major stand of the innings saw Cox (44) and Whiteley (38) provide some rich entertainment.
Cox collected five fours and a six in one Parry over and Whiteley smote 20 in the next over from George Edwards.
The last five wickets went down for 22 runs after Cox was bowled by Reece and Whiteley was run out attempting a second run off Jordan Clark.
