Pardoe Amongst The Runs As Seconds Reach Another Big Target

Worcestershire Seconds successfully chased down a sizeable total for the second time in 24 hours to defeat a Birmingham League X1 by three wickets in a 50 over encounter at Bromsgrove on Friday.

On Thursday the Seconds had scored 415 on the final day to overcome their Glamorgan counterparts in a Second Eleven Championship fixture at Kidderminster.

This time the Seconds reached a 300 target with nine balls to spare with the aid of a rapid 97 from Matt Pardoe who has played all nine LV = County Championship matches this season.

The Birmingham League XI won the toss and elected to bat and they scored 299-2 off their 50 overs.

Ed Foster, formerly of Worcestershire, top scored with an unbeaten 117 off 100 balls, with 11 fours and 3 sixes.

Alex Phillips (64), another ex Worcestershire playert in Nathan Round (47 not out) and Liam Gwynne (42) were the other contributors.

Pardoe, with 1-33 off 6 overs, and spinner Shaaiq Choudhry, the batting hero against Glamorgan, with 1-60 off 10 overs, were the Seconds wicket-takers.

Worcestershire were given a rapid start by Pardoe who fell just three short of his century after facing only 70 balls and hitting 15 fours and two sixes.

The momentum was sustained by Will MacVicar, who is playing for Loughborough MCCU this year, and George Rhodes (40) as the Seconds reached 302-7 off 48.3 overs.

MacVicar ended unbeaten on 72 off 72 balls with eight fours.

The Seconds return to action on Tuesday at the start of a four-day friendly clash with Warwickshire at Barnt Green CC.
