Moeen Ali made another important contribution with the bat as England closed in on an Ashes triumph in the fourth Investec Test against Australia at Trent Bridge.
The Worcestershire all-rounder came in at number nine – after Mark Wood had gone in as nightwatchman the previous evening – and smashed 38 off just 24 balls prior to Alastair Cook's declaration at 391-9.
It followed on from his 77 at Cardiff, 39 at Lord's and 59 at Edgbaston.
Moeen came to the wicket at 320-7 and during his time at the wicket 70 runs were added in nine overs, most of them in a stand of 58 with eight wicket first innings hero Stuart Broad.
The 28-year-old showed his liking for the bowling of Mitchell Starc with a four through mid-wicket, another through the covers and a third boundary over square leg.
Moeen then lofted spinner Nathan Lyon for a straight six and collected two fours in an over from Josh Hazlewood.
In all he struck seven fours and a six before his former Worcestershire team-mate Steve Smith pulled off a superb catch at second slip off the bowling of Mitchell Johnson.
With a first innings lead of 331, England then reduced Australia to 241-7 by stumps on the second day – still 90 short of avoiding an innings defeat.
*Former Worcestershire opener Stephen Peters has announced his retirement from all cricket with immediate effect at the age of 36.
Peters moved to New Road from Essex, being one of several players brought in by the then Director of Cricket Tom Moody along with the likes of Ben Smith and Gareth Batty.
He remained three seasons with the county before moving onto Northamptonshire where he spent 10 years until deciding to hang up his spikes.
He said: "I would like to thank Essex and Worcestershire but especially Northants where the last ten years have been fantastic."
