Kervezee Century As Seconds Bat Out Final Day At Stourbridge

Kervezee Century As Seconds Bat Out Final Day At Stourbridge

Alexei Kervezee hit a century to help Worcestershire Seconds bat through the final day and claim a draw in their Championship match with Derbyshire Seconds at Stourbridge CC.

Kervezee's first ton of the summer for the Seconds enabled them to reach 326-6 by stumps after resuming on 33-0.

They finished 159 runs ahead of Derbyshire and claimed 10 points from the game – two for batting, three for bowling and five for sharing the spoils.

Kervezee struck 20 boundaries in his 160 ball knock.

He shared in stands of 105 with Alex Hepburn and 56 with Zen Malik before being the final wicket to fall at 313 when the game was effectively saved.

There were two brief delays during the morning session while footholds at the football ground end of the ground were repaired.

During that period George Rhodes was dismissed for 22 after pulling a delivery from Tom Milnes to mid wicket.

His opening partner Ollie Westbury (26) was lbw to Ben Cotton and then Tom Fell, having made 37 off 51 balls with six boundaries, was caught behind off Rob Hemmings.

At that juncture Worcestershire were still 60 runs short of making Derbyshire bat again at 107-3.

But Kervezee and Hepburn (40) then joined forces for their century stand before the Seconds skipper was run out by a direct hit from short cover after being called for a single.

Malik (23) also gave Kervezee good support in their half century stand before he was bowled by Ben Cotton.

Kervezee was dismissed in the same manner by Sam Connors to leave Ben Twohig 21 not out from 93 balls before the game reached its conclusion.
