Tom Fell made an encouraging return for Worcestershire on day two of the Specsavers County Championship clash with Leicestershire at New Road.
Fell received warm applause all the way to the middle in his first innings since his double battle against cancer.
He got off the mark with a four through mid wicket off Ben Raine and the 22-year-old looked in fine form in bringing up his half century off 88 balls with 10 boundaries before eventually being dismissed for 61.
Mitchell was also in good nick in making a determined 52 as Worcestershire set out in pursuit of Leicestershire's first innings total of 407.
The home side launched their reply immediately after lunch and Brett D'Oliveira (18) was caught at widish mid on off Clint McKay with 38 on the board.
Mitchell and Fell then joined forces and by tea had guided Worcestershire to 107-1.
Fell steered Raine to third man to reach his half century and Mitchell cut the same bowler to the ropes to go to his third half century of the summer off 124 balls with four fours.
The stand was worth 97 in 33 overs when Fell played Raine to point and set off for a single and a mix-up led to Mitchell being run-out after Paul Horton threw the ball back to keeper Ned Eckersley.
Fell's fine knock ended when he drove at Raine and was caught behind and then Tom Kohler-Cadmore (8) and Ross Whiteley (5) were lbw to Charlie Shreck and McKay respectively.
Joe Clarke looked in good nick and reeled off several impressive boundaries.
But in the penultimate over Ben Cox (2) was caught at slip of Mark Cosgrove and then with two balls of the day remaining Clarke (34) was bowled by Neil Dexter as Worcestershire closed on 193-7 from 66.4 overs.
Ed Barnard and D'Oliveira both picked up four wickets as Leicestershire were bowled out for on the stroke of lunch.
Barnard returned career best figures of 20-4-62-4 and D'Oliveira 30-3-80-4.
Leicestershire resumed on 299-7 against the opening attack of Kyle Abbott and Barnard who had been the pick of the bowlers on the opening day.
Ecklersley pulled Abbott for four to reach his first half century of the campaign.
Abbott, bowling from the Diglis End, bowled a superb over to Raine who survived one dropped chance and nicked two deliveries just short of the slips.
But it was D'Oliveira who ended Raine's knock on 25 when he held onto a return catch with the total on 337-8 in the 111th over.
Former Worcestershire paceman Richard Jones, who is on loan from Warwickshire to Leicestershire, swept D'Oliveira for four to bring up the 350.
Worcestershire continued to plug away in a bid to make a further breakthrough.
It was Barnard who struck when Jones was bowled for 33 after adding 69 in 13.1 overs with Eckersley.
Then D'Oliveira wrapped up the innings when Shreck was lbw for nought to leave Eckersley unbeaten on 92 from 139 balls with 14 fours.
