Clarke shines with the bat for county seconds at Taunton

England Under19 wicket-keeper Joe Clarke top-scored for Worcestershire on the opening day of the second eleven friendly match with Somerset at Taunton.

Clarke struck an unbeaten 86 from 152 balls with 12 fours as Worcestershire reached 247-8 from 70 overs before rain halted play for the day at tea.

Worcestershire were put into bat and Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Shaaiq Choudhry, who both played in the win over Kent in the LV County Championship, gave their side a flying start with an opening stand of 82 in 19 overs.

Choudhry was unfortunate to be run out for 14 when bowler Tom Abell deflected the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker's end.

In the same over Kohler-Cadmore, having made 59 off 60 balls with two sixes and 10 fours, was also dismissed.

Skipper Joe Leach went for a first ball duck but Tom Fell and Clarke added 50 before the former departed for 37 off 35 balls with six fours as Worcestershire reached 161-4 off 39 overs by lunch.

Clarke and Brett D'Oliveira (19) shared a fifth wicket stand of 59 to take the total past the 200 mark.

Worcestershire lost three wickets for five runs shortly before the premature close but Clarke remained undefeated.
