Brown Included In Squad For Glamorgan Home Clash

Worcestershire have included teenage paceman Pat Brown – who is on a cricket scholarship at Worcester University – in their 12 man squad for tomorrow's Specsavers County Championship match with Glamorgan at New Road.

Peterborough-born Brown is added to the 11 players on duty in the clash with Sussex at the 1st Central County Ground.

The 18-year-old Academy product has been a regular member of the Seconds side this summer.

Opening batsman Daryl Mitchell and all-rounder George Rhodes also progressed via the University scholarship route.

Director Of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "Pat has impressed us this year in what he has done. He deserves a chance, an opportunity to be around the first team to see how things are done in that area.

"Whether he plays or doesn't play, it will be of benefit to him for the future.

"He has been through the Academy but we picked him up a bit later. He is a Lincolnshire lad and what impressed us was his effort levels in attending, training, practice.

"He desperately wants it. He is on a University of Worcester scholarship at the moment. George and Mitch came in that way as well.

"The real benefit to the players and us is, because they are on site and just around the corner, and also because the University are very flexible, he can attend all our training, practice in the winter and summer, and also games, and still have a degree at the end of it.

"It is the good way into the professional game as with George and Mitch."

Spinner Nathan Lyon will make his home debut for the County having played in three successive away games with Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Sussex.
